Buenos Aires, Feb 3 (NA) – The vice president of Newell's, Juan Manuel Medina, revealed the project the red-and-black team has to lure Argentine star Lionel Messi to Argentine football in 2027 and add him to the club.

According to what Noticias Argentinas was able to gather in televised interviews, the 'Lepra' executive assured that they are "working on Leo playing for Newell's in the first half of 2027, but for now there is nothing more than that".

"It is a plan that goes beyond the club and involves Rosario, Santa Fe and Argentine football," explained Medina in dialogue with TN. And he added: "Everything depends on what we can show in terms of infrastructure and offer a competitive sports scheme".

Along the same lines, Medina communicated that the plan began to be devised in 2024 with the creation of the political group UNEN, which managed to take over the leadership of Newell's in 2025 and brought Ignacio Boero to the top position.

In this way, the vice president was blunt in acknowledging that there had been contacts with people close to the former Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain player: "talks took place, the idea was raised, but today there are no definitions," he said.

However, Lionel Messi recently renewed his link with Inter Miami of the United States until the end of the 2028 MLS season, so there would have to be an agreement between clubs.
